Many people ask, What must I do to be saved?
Why do pepple ask questions, and is it wrong to ask questions? It is a good thing to ask questions. Asking reveals that you are longing for something. You are searching or wanting to be clear about something. The Bible infact assures us that when we search for God, we will find Him. Jer. 29:13. When you search with all your heart God will reveal Himself to you.
One of the most important question is, “what must I do to be saved? The Bible puts it clearly this way. Believe and you will be saved. In Acts 16:31 says, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved–you and your household.” The Bible makes it plain and clear. God came in search of man. John 3:16, “for God so loved the world.” God loved you first before you can even think about loving Him. Rom. 5:8. While we were yet sinners. God therefore wants you to come with assurance that He loves you. He loves you and there is nothing that can ever make Him hate you. He hates the sin which seperates us and Himself but He loves us and hence the reason why He wants to remove sin from us. John 3:16 finishes this way, that whosoever believeth shall receive eternal life.
The first step therefore in being saved is not what you do but the decision you make. The action comes later as a result of love.
If there was somethign we could do to save ourselves, there was no need for Jesus to come and die on the cross. “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” Heb. 4:16. Come while you still have time and be saved. Jesus wants us to come and make a solemn decision. You are worried about your sins? 1 John 1:8-9 the Bible makes it clear, yes we have all sinned, but the following verse says that Jesus will forgive us if we confess and He will (notice He will not us) cleans us from all unrighteusness.
So what must you do to be saved? Believe in Jesus and you will be saved.
Now does this means that I can go now and live however I am please? NO. Listen to the Apostle Paul. “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?” Rom. 6:1-2. If we love God, we will obey Him. There is no relationship that does no have priciples and regulations. John 14:15 – Jesus said, “If you love me, Keep my commandments.”
I once used to be worried about not being able to keep all the commandments. I was worried about how I might loose on heaven becuase I was thinking about all the things I must do to be saved, as if I had the power to make myself righteous. Jesus showed met that all that was His work. So what changed. I stopped depending in my own power and I began putting everything in prayer. I began depending on God and then slowly my focus was removed from me and it was placed on God. That’s it. When you keep your eyes on Jesus and not your self, God will be able to do marvelous things in you.
